The soundtrack to the new Ethan Hawke film 'The Hottest State,' which arrives this week, is drawing heady praise. The New York Post compared the album, which finds an impossibly cool roster of artists interpreting the songs of Grammy-winner Jesse Harris, to similar collaborations between Tom Waits and Francis Ford Copola or P.T. Anderson and Aimee Mann. Entertainment Weekly calls Harris the new Kris Kristofferson. Wow!
PRAISE FOR 'THE HOTTEST STATE' SOUNDTRACK:
"Ethan Hawke's new movie has the 'Hottest' soundtrack ... [featuring] a virtual who's who of cool including Bright Eyes, The Black Keys, Cat Power, Feist and M. Ward ... Though the artists worked separately the performances sound remarkably cohesive ... no matter the fate of the movie, its soundtrack deserves to become a staple."
- NY DAILY NEWS, August 5, 2007
"Harris [is] a Kris Kristofferson for the aughts ... Sunday morning comedowns don't come much lovelier."
- ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, August 10, 2007
"The perfect rainy day music."
- PEOPLE MAGAZINE, August 13, 2007
"It should surprise no one that songs by a young composer of [Harris'] reputation would attract such stellar interpreters."
- NY POST, August 5, 2007
"Jesse Harris is carving out a place in the pantheon of notably covered artists."
- STEREOGUM, June 25, 2007
"[Harris] has made a career out of refusing to stay in one place for long."
- BILLBOARD, JULY 28, 2007
