THINKFilm Receives Two More Oscar Nominations

New York, NY    January 22, 2008

With today's announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, THINKFilm received two more Academy Award nominations in the Best Documentary Feature category - for Alex Gibney's TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE, and Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine's WAR/DANCE - to bring the company's total to seven overall nominations over the last six years, and the sixth in the Documentary Feature category. Previous nominations in the Best Documentary category were for MURDERBALL in 2005, a Best Documentary win for BORN INTO BROTHELS and a nomination for THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL in 2004, and a nomination for SPELLBOUND in 2003. Last year, Ryan Gosling was also nominated for Best Actor for his performance in HALF NELSON.

About the nominations, THINKFilm's Theatrical Head Mark Urman says, "These wonderful nominations have been an ongoing part of our company's profile and we're so proud to have it remain so. We are especially grateful because Oscar nominations can transform the destiny of these worthy independent films."

Alex Gibney, director of TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE says: "It's a great thrill to be nominated! All those involved worked very hard to get here. It's a vindication for the quality of the film and the message it sends. I hope the nominations will lead more Americans to see it - maybe even those in the Bush Administration who have tried to take the nation over to 'the dark side.'"

TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE, the latest documentary from multiple Oscar-nominee Alex Gibney, confirms his standing as one of the foremost non-fiction filmmakers working today. A stunning inquiry into the suspicious death of an Afghani taxi driver at Bagram air base in 2002, the film is a fastidiously assembled, uncommonly well-researched examination of how an innocent civilian was apprehended, imprisoned, tortured, and ultimately murdered by the greatest democracy on earth. Intermingling documents and records of the incident with candid testimony from eyewitnesses and participants, the film uncovers an inescapable link between the tragic incidents that unfolded in Bagram and the policies made at the very highest level of the United States government in Washington, D.C. Combining the cool detachment of a forensic expert with the heated indignation of a proud American who holds his country to a high standard, Gibney's film reveals how the Bush administration has systematically betrayed the very ideals it professes to uphold. The film is currently in theaters; for more information please go to www.taxitothedarkside.com.

Sean Fine/Andrea Nix Fine, directors of WAR/DANCE say: "We share this honor with the children of northern Uganda who so bravely looked into our lens and shared their stories with us in hopes that their words would be heard around the world. We are thrilled to be recognized by the Academy and we hope that this attention can affect real change in the lives of these kids."

WAR/DANCE, set in Northern Uganda, a country ravaged by more than two decades of civil war, tells the story of Dominic, Rose, and Nancy, three children whose families have been torn apart, their homes destroyed, and who currently reside in a displaced persons camp in Patongo. When they are invited to compete in an annual music and dance competition, their historic journey to their nation's capital is also an opportunity to regain a part of their childhood and to taste victory for the first time in their lives.
