URMAN UPPED TO PRESIDENT AT THINKFILM
New York April 24, 2008
Mark Urman has been named President of THINKFilm, it was announced today by the company's Chairman, David Bergstein. Urman, who was one of THINK's founders, has been head of its theatrical division since its formation in September of 2001. He will continue to work out of and expand the company's New York offices, which will serve as THINKFilm's new headquarters. The appointment is effective immediately.
About the promotion Bergstein says, "Mark has played a crucial role in establishing THINK as a brand that is known and respected around the world. His strengthened role in the company guarantees that THINKFilm will retain its unique identity even as we take the company in new directions." Urman adds, "David envisions an exciting future for the company, and I am pleased and honored to be on board as we begin this new chapter in THINK's history."
Since being acquired by Bergstein's Capco in the fall of 2006, THINKFilm has gradually built up its New York operations, adding key staff in such areas as acquisitions, publicity, and marketing, and relocating last winter to larger offices on Madison Avenue. The Canadian assets of the company were sold to Entertainment One last month and all of THINK's films will now be released in Canada through Entertainment One's theatrical division, Seville Pictures. The company recently won its second Oscar for Alex Gibney's TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE, which is currently in national release. Its next title, Helen Hunt's THEN SHE FOUND ME, starring Hunt, Bette Midler, Colin Firth and Matthew Broderick, opens on April 25th. BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD, which became THINKFilm's highest grossing title late last year, was co-financed and sold internationally by Bergstein's Capitol Films (with Bergstein serving as executive producer), and was released on DVD this week.
Before joining THINKFilm, Urman served as Co-President of Lions Gate Films Releasing, where he oversaw a release slate that garnered a total of nine Academy Award nominations and three Oscar wins. He also served as executive producer on the Oscar-winning "Monster's Ball." Previous positions have also included: Senior VP at Dennis Davidson Associates, VP of East Coast Publicity at Columbia Pictures, Head of Marketing at Triumph Films (the specialized film distribution division that Columbia created in partnership with Gaumont), and in international marketing and publicity at United Artists.
About THINKFilm THINKFilm is a privately held production and distribution company founded in September 2001 that is now a division of David Bergstein's Capitol Films; Bergstein also serves as the company's Chairman.
